Andrew never did like goodbyes.
 The arms of the good-looking woman were around his neck as she said farewell to him at Dover
and his cheek rested on her breast as she stood in the boat and he could hear her heart beating
through the soft material of her dress.
He had spent a lot of time with his elder sister since their mother had died and he had come to
admire her fortitude and inner strength. As the sound of the waves lapped against the high water
line, he dearly hoped that Carrie’s health would hold out. The illness she had suffered when their
mother died had laid her very low for over two years but right now she appeared to glow with
health. Perhaps it was the thought of her impending marriage to Prince Philippe that was her
inspiration.
‘Look after John Henry for me,’ she said to the brother who had come onto the scene pretty late
in their parents’ lives. ‘He’s still very young to be involved in this kind of thing.’
‘Yes, Carrie. I’ll do my best.’
