Chapter One

The sound of horns playing the King’s fanfare cut through the babble of
conversation in the theater.
Prince Connor Shaltar stood up with everyone else, turning his face toward the
royal box. The King and Queen entered the flag-draped box, and everyone bowed,
including Connor. Behind the royal pair, two other figures entered: Princess Teressa
and her friend Wren.
The girls were whispering, but Connor saw Wren’s eager eyes taking in every
detail of the theater. She saw him at the same time, and her face broke into a wide
grin. Giving him a surreptitious wave, she nudged the Princess and whispered
