After a long telehone conversation with Lisa, Kosta would call back immeeiately to tell her that he missed her. He was affectionate as should be. He was a good-looking, hard-working, ambitious creek American (that's how she thought of him, though he was not yet a citizen) who was getting a good education. [e was, in a word, perfect. As promised, Kosta took Lisa flying. "He took me to Daytona Beach airport, next to Embryiddle," Lisa says. "He rented a little, single-engine Cheroe there, and he scared the hell out of me. He liked to do crazy things like fly real low to the ground or get up real high and shut off the engine." Lisa, never a big fan of physical adventure, decided she would live longer if she did not fly with Kosta, and she live it up. But not before acquiring a story to tell. how he's got such a great sense of direction. [e radios in to tell the air controllers he's ready to come for a landing, and they say, "Okay, where are you located?" Kosta tells them, "I'm two point seven knots, or what ever, from the Daytona Beach airport." I asked him, What does that mean?" He says, "I'm landing at the Daytona Beach airport." He points down at the airport. I said, Costa, that's not the Daytona Beach airport." He said, "Yes it is." I said, "No, it's not, Kosta. I was born in Daytona, Beach and come into that airport a lot and that's not it." Well, he insisted he was right. And then the air traffic controller motions and says, "We don't see you, you must be over the Ormond Beach airport." It was a riot. Kosta was over A nice Greek Boy was over the wrong airport. Mr. Always Right was wrong. "See,' I said, "I told you."" Though Kosta was almost obsessive about being right, he did not get angry or blow his stack when proven wrong. In fact, Lisa noticed right from the beginning that Kosta showed very little emotion of any type. Since she was the type to cry easily, or |
