Michael glanced out at the seething shadows of night through his
kitchen

window, wondering if he had seen something shift out there, or if he was just
imagining

things. He could have sworn that something had passed his window, but if he
had

been pressed to say exactly what, he would have been unable to answer. An

occasional bird might fly past, the window washer's would work their way down
