The tiny planet Mercury was a blur as they passed within a few kilometres of its heavily-cratered surface, sending up huge dust clouds as Cassi juggled with the controls to prevent Wayfarer being drawn down towards its surface. Just as quickly as it had come, the danger was past and Wayfarer One was rocketing forward under full power at ten times the speed of light.
