'A schoolteacjier.' Teresa gave a derisory laugh. 'You, a schoolteacher! My my, we have got ideas above our station, haven't we? Our kind don't become schoolteachers. That's for posh folk.' Bridie pulled a face. 'I know. But a lassie can have dreams, can't she? If things had been different, if I hadn't been born into an ordinary working-class family, then that's what I'd like to have been. A spell at university, then training college followed by teaching.'
